Viral Chhaya, Global Business Solutions Director at General Motors, joins SSON podcast rockstar Seth Adler – and tells Seth why recognizing GM's strengths as well as it's weaknesses was important in order to start from the right basis.
As a car company, providing cars to staff would make GM the 5th largest car rental company in the US! So Travel & Mobility has come under the GBS scope. The 4 verticals (HR, Finance, Procurement, Travel & Mobility) are cut across by horizontals like RPA, data, migrations, Finance system transformations, etc., in a relatively new structure – launched in October 2018.
At the node intersections of these horizontals and verticals is where there is real value and learning, Viral explains.
For example: RPA is three years in, and the Automation Anywhere licenses are now being leveraged by self-sufficient GM teams. This indigenous capability is key to GM's automation optimization plan.
"We are self-sufficient at this point in time – and have completed 69 projects that have generated 16m dollars to date. Another 61 projects are planned that will generate 46m dollars," Viral tells Seth.
