Unleash your BS

At SSON, we believe in the power of shared learning, and our Global Advisory Board (GAB) has a wealth of wisdom and experience to offer. In this exciting series, we have invited GAB members to share their top recommendations for books, podcasts, and articles that have inspired them throughout their careers. Below is our latest recommendation from Steve Rudderham, Global Leader, Carrier Business Services.

Unleash Your BS!

He immensely disliked selling Buicks at his Dad's GM car dealerships, so he took his television background and over time became the global guru on Executive Presence and Influential Communications.  Meet my friend, Jeff Black, Founder & CEO of Black Sheep Global, a boutique leadership development company with major clients in 28 countries, including several who offer GBS.  He is not paying me for this book endorsement, nor is he selling me a Buick.  Ever.

Jeff's book, "Unleash Your BS (Best Self): Put Your Executive Presence to the Test" is an easy read with practical tips. He takes layers of complexity and delivers for his readers what we all want - simplicity.  Jeff is much shorter than me and very dramatic, so naturally, the book is based on a corporate crisis "ripped from today's headlines," telling the tale of Fortune 500 managers who are suddenly facing a post-merger downsizing.  They must compete for limited management spots and attend J.T. Black's (Jeff Black's) executive presence and communications course.  Yes, I told you he was d-r-a-m-a-t-i-c!

His book has been endorsed by leaders from GE Appliances, American Airlines, Lockheed Martin, Procter & Gamble and more.  Even a legendary soap opera actress had a word or two to say about Jeff's book. I have constantly engaged Jeff over the last 15 years for in-person sessions to develop the executive presence and communication skills of my management teams.  So go ahead, GBS leaders, get ready to unleash some BS!  Learn some simple tips and get ready for the drama.
